Art and Illusion is an Italian progressive rock band formed in 1990 in Piacenza, Italy. Since its inception, the band has always focused exclusively on original material, developing a distinctive sound influenced by classic progressive rock and contemporary rock elements.
The band debuted with a self-produced demo tape titled Art and Illusion (1990), which laid the foundations for their musical identity, characterized by complex arrangements, atmospheric textures and emotionally driven songwriting.
In 1993, Art and Illusion released their first official album, Monolithos, published by the prestigious Italian label Mellow Records. The album received positive feedback within the progressive rock community and established the band as a solid presence in the Italian prog scene.
The follow-up album Seasons (1995), also released by Mellow Records, expanded their musical language, blending melody and experimentation while maintaining a strong conceptual approach.
In the same year, the band contributed to two important tribute projects: Lilywhite Lilith for “The River of Constant Change – A Tribute to Genesis” and Lizard Play for “Eyewitness – A Tribute to Van Der Graaf Generator”, confirming their deep roots in the progressive tradition.
Today, Art and Illusion continues its artistic journey, preserving its original vision and passion for progressive music.
